Lakefield is a beautiful little town just north of Peterborough in the Kawartha Lakes region and less than 2 hours east of Toronto. Located on the Otonabee River, part of the Trent-Severn Waterway, the Village of Lakefield is a community of about 2,500 people.
Whether you are thinking of retiring or just semi-retiring away from the big city, Lakefield is an ideal setting. On the edge of cottage country, Lakefield is a mostly residential community with loads of historic charm.
Lakefield is home to Lakefield College School with a rich 140-year history and home to some famous alumni, including Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and actor Will Arnett.
It was home to the late, award-winning author Margaret Laurence in the 70s and 80s and is now home to the Lakefield Literary Festival, held every July close to her birthday.
There is also an annual Jazz, Art & Craft Festival in the summer by the river with a great variety of music, works by local artisans and local food vendors to enjoy.
