The Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen is synonymous with cottage country. The abundance of lakes and rivers in this township attract many cottage-goers year round.
If you own a cottage or are a frequent renter, you may have wondered on many occasions what it would be like to live the cottage life permanently. Imagine living on the lake year round. It’s like a permanent vacation! If you are at or near retirement, Havelock might be just what you are looking for.
This Township is part of Peterborough County, just 90 kms east of Toronto on Highway 7. Havelock itself is a small, quaint village of about 1,300 people making it an ideal place to retire from the noise and bustle of the city. And it’s proximity to both Peterborough and the GTA, means you are never far from all the amenities you may need and close enough to city life if you need the occasional fix.
In addition to the lakes and rivers, another big attraction here is the annual Havelock Country Jamboree, Canada’s largest live country music and camping festival.
And if you like a bit of history and adventure, this Township was home to one of Ontario’s gold rush boomtowns from about 1892 through to 1940. Cordova Mines - now a semi-ghost town just northeast of Havelock - still has a general store, complete with LCBO and Beer Store, and is worth a visit.
From breweries to conservation areas to petroglyphs, there is plenty to see and do in and around the Township. You can be as active and adventurous or as chill and relaxed as you desire.
